“One of the goals of the Bluefield Coal Symposium is to lift up the spirits of those serving the coal industry and what better way to do this is with great music,” said Bill Reid, Symposium Chair and Managing Editor of CoalZoom.com. “We are proud to present Twitty and Lynn as well as the hit music of Exile, who will provide us with lasting memories for a long time to come.”

On the first evening of Monday, August 12, there is a live performance by Twitty and Lynn: A Salute to Conway and Loretta. This dynamic duo celebrates the music and friendship of their iconic grandparents. From the moment they take the stage, everyone will be transported to another time when they perform many of the great standards we are familiar with such as “It’s Only Make Believe” and who knows, maybe we’ll get to hear “A Coal Miner’s Daughter”.

Appearing on Tuesday evening August 13 is Exile, who are performing some of their numerous hits. The group was formed in 1963 with their most successful hit “Kiss You All Over” spending four weeks at the top of the charts in 1978. In the early 1980s Exile began to focus on country music and during their run on the country charts, Exile had ten No. 1 singles including “I Don’t Want to be a Memory” and “Give Me One More Chance”. The hit song “Kiss You All Over” was used in two movies. The band is currently on tour promoting their most ambitious project ever A Million Miles Later.

The Bluefield Coal Symposium has the theme Using U.S. Coal for a Better America. This national one-of-a-kind event is jointly presented by the Chamber of Commerce of the Two Virginias and CoalZoom.com. The symposium is being held on August 12- 14, 2024 at the Chuck Mathena Center, 1298 Stafford Drive, Princeton, WV. which is a beautiful 930-seat theater with state-of-the-art audio and visual capabilities as well as stunning architecture.

The Symposium has four main goals:

·          to aid the search for zero accidents;

·          to lift the spirits of those serving the coal industry and bring everyone together;

·          to help promote MINExpo INTERNATIONAL®; and

·          to examine the challenges and opportunities for coal.

Over two days, there are three technical sessions, two dinners, and one luncheon. The American coal industry makes a $40 billion direct economic contribution to the Nation each year and there are 68,179 employees at coal mines, including contractors, with both direct and indirect workers totaling 324,800. The distinguished speakers at the Bluefield Coal Symposium will examine the future of the coal industry and is one of the major events in the 2024 coal calendar leading up to MINExpo®.

The greater Bluefield area is quite beautiful in August, so please join us for some high-quality presentations, great food and top-class entertainment, combined with plenty of friendly socializing, all happening in a picturesque setting in the heart of coal country.
